Treatments-Conditions

Headaches
Headaches are extremely common and are one of the leading causes of visits to the doctor. Although most are not dangerous, some headaches can be a sign of a life threatening situation. In an effort to alleviate pain we tend to consume huge amounts of unhelpful painkillers.

At Vitality Health Center we will help determine the direct cause of your headache and fix the problem instead of covering it up with unhealthy medications.

Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is often misunderstood. Fibromyalgia is a set of symptoms that by themselves may not be problematic, but when combined can be nearly crippling.

It is not unusual for those suffering with fibromyalgia syndrome to suffer from a combination of anxiety or depression, a decreased pain threshold, incapacitating fatigue, tender points on the body and widespread pain.

Fibromyalgia is 10 times more likely to strike a woman between the ages of 25 and 60 than it is to affect men at all.

Neck sprains and strains
Cervical strains are commonly known as "whiplash injury" and are one of the most common injuries after a car accident. It is also, perhaps, one of the most misunderstood disorders of the spine.

Inevitably, cervical strains or sprains caused by whiplash are a result of the severe back and forth movement generally accompanying a rear-end car accident. These injuries can occur even in low-speed accidents (6 to 9 mph). These types of injuries are rarely fatal, but may cause minor to severe disability.

Cervical Disc Degeneration
If you are suffering from neck pain, or a stiff neck it's possible you may be suffering from cervical disc degeneration.

A fall or an injury that causes you to twist and simple wear and tear can lead to disc degeneration and pain. The neck, arms, and shoulders may display signs of numbness, weakness or even tingling. This is often a result of the nerves in the cervical area being pinched or otherwise irritated.

Back sprains and strains
Back strains can result from stretching a ligament too far by twisting or by heavy lifting. This can often be a result of using muscles that are not used every day. A back strain is usually not as severe as a back sprain, but can still cause pain and be a nuisance to daily life.

A back sprain, involves actual injury to the back via a ligament, facet, or capsule. Although often used interchangeably, back sprains and back strains are not the same condition.

Low back pain
Nearly all of us at one time or another has had tenderness, stiffness or pain in our back. We may find ourselves uncomfortable while sitting or find that our legs are tired all week when we walk. Low back pain can be caused by injury, strains, bending or even a symptom of a far more serious condition.

Arthritis in the back can also lead to sever back pain. People who smoke, are overweight, or do physical work may also have low back pain.

Sciatica
Characterized by pain with weakness or numbness in the leg, sciatica may be caused by injury or by compression of the sciatic nerve. On its own, sciatica is not considered a condition; it is generally a symptom of a different problem.

People who suffer from sciatica will have pain that varies from very mild to severe. Generally, the pain occurs only on one side and may be felt on the back of the calf or even the sole of the feet.

Lumbar degenerative disc disease
Centered low back pain that may radiate to the legs and hips could be a warning for lumbar degenerative disc disease. In some cases, the pain is worse when sitting, bending, twisting or lifting.

Lumbar degenerative disc disease is caused either by inflammation or by instability in the outer rings of the vertebra.

Osteoarthritis
Inflammation in the joints is typically identified merely as arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis and is degenerative. Knees, hips, and spine (or weight bearing joints) are the most commonly occurring areas of osteoarthritis.

Cartilage often become stiff and loses elasticity when a patient has osteoarthritis. The more the cartilage deteriorates the more tendons and ligaments stretch and cause pain. In the worst cases, osteoarthritis could result in bones rubbing up against each other.

Rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is chronic, and typically occurs in hands, wrists, or knees. Unlike other forms of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis may also affect lungs, heart, nerves, skin and eyes.

Typically, rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by joint pain and stiffness which can cause fatigue. While symptoms may develop gradually over time, some patients find that it progresses rapidly. Rheumatoid arthritis may also go into periods of remission, only to come back again in full force.

Facet Syndrome
For people who suffer from arthritis or a back injury, you may find that you are not only suffering residual stiffness, but may also be suffering pain and headaches.

All too often, this is caused by a condition called "facet syndrome" and can result in serious restriction of motion. In spite of the fact that you may find yourself in severe pain, bed rest is often not your best option. In fact, bed rest can have a detrimental effect. Initially, activity modification is the easiest way to deal with these types of injuries.

Subluxation Degeneration
When your spine is out of line, it is known as a subluxation. Subluxation occurs when the body attempts to fuse adjacent spinal bones together. A subluxation can cause numerous issues, including stress on the joints. Subluxation may also be found in children.

Subluxation, if left unattended, can interfere with your nervous system. Since nervous system controls almost everything in the body, subluxation may adversely affect your health.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel can be caused by repetitive motion, certain types of arthritis, diabetes, pregnancy, and obesity.

Carpal tunnel syndrome, in addition to causing pain, may also have symptoms of numbness, weakness and tingling. As a rule of thumb, most of these symptoms are found in the thumb, the middle finger, the index finger and from time to time, the ring finger.

Bursitis
Bursitis is most commonly defined as an inflammation of the bursa. It is often caused by repetitive motion, but can also be caused by age. Bursitis is more likely to occur if you engage in high risk activities such as golf, tennis or skiing. Also, development of bursitis can arise if you failed to properly stretch before any type of exercise.

Most commonly bursitis will affect the joints in the hip, knee or elbow. Many people that suffer from bursitis find that typical over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications can help ease the discomfort. Here at Vitality Health Center we will help you strengthen your joints through physical therapy and other healthcare options.

Chronic Pain and Depression
If you are suffering from low energy, muscle pain, and lack of physical stamina you may be suffering from a combination of depression and chronic pain. People who are suffering from chronic pain often have difficulty sleeping, daytime fatigue, and as a result low productivity.

For those who are under a great deal of stress, adding chronic pain can lead to overwhelming feelings of depression. Initially, this may start off as mere irritability. Combining these added stresses with chronic pain and feelings of mere irritability can lead to thoughts of suicide.
