• Self-Care Improves the Quality of Your Life

Self-care is easy to set aside for a more convenient time. The issue is that time rarely comes with all the responsibilities in life that come up. You have to pay bills, pick up the kids, run to ballet lessons and drop off the dry cleaning. Then throw in the random car problem or family dilemma. In order to handle these, you must be filled up.

These are my favorite tips for self-care that can boost your life (and immune system).

  1. Meditate: 10-20 minutes of focused breathing or mind-body connection can help you focus and relax. This lends to better stress management, reduced inflammation and heart and immune health. You can be more productive when you feel more grounded and maintain clarity, which meditation can support.
  2. Balance Work Schedule: Work-Life balance does not exist because your work is part of your life. Often times, I see people distract themselves with work or run to work more when they feel stressed, perpetuating the issue. Life works inside out. Check in with yourself and determine what you need. Spend time with friends and family. Make time to be in nature and get a workout in. Do other things that make you feel strong and supported.
  3. Switch from Surviving to Thriving: We have a built-in fight or flight mechanism. We have basic needs that must be met. But we are more than the machinery of our minds or the cells of our bodies. It’s also important to feel love and peace and joy. Make time for activities that bring out these traits. Sign up for that dance class. Organize a group of friends to go see your favorite band. Ask that person you’ve been eyeing on a date. You have one life, and it will fly by if you don’t go for it.
  4. Eat Right. Get Regular Check-ups: We are emotional and spiritual beings so we need to tend to those aspects of ourselves to feel fulfilled. We are also physical beings, and our physical wealth depends on our physical health. Make the time to get regular workouts in. You need to workout a minimum of 3 days per week. Eat lots of leafy greens and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Go to the doctor for annual visits. Schedule an appointment with your chiropractor for adjustments and joint health. Don’t skip these important details. It’s easy to get drained and let your health slip by. Take care of your body now, and it will pay you back in dividends.
